Condominium construction sites at Toronto's Harbourfront development were photographed, and then those projections rephotographed to exaggerate perspective and induce vertigo. Those images were printed as laminated murals and sliced into strips which were Velcro'd to a balanced cinder-block construction. 72" x 186" x 92 inches / 182,5cm x 472,5cm x 233,5cm
Condemned
The Vie d’Ange art gallery, a converted auto garage at 6820 rue Marconi in Montréal, was sold and slated for demolition very soon after the neighborhood was renamed “Mile-Ex” by developers. Microsoft began construction of a tech hub building across the street from the gallery and Vie d’Ange was notified to vacate.
For the gallery’s final project "Condemned", an updated version of the photo-sculpture “Condo ’88” (left) was designed and erected, and will remain on-site permanently until both structures, the gallery and the installation, are demolished to make way for free-market urbanism.
