Pieces

These oil paintings are taken from Francis Bacon’s now-iconic triptych
“Three Studies Of Lucian Freud”, the star-lot record-breaker from
Autumn 2013's contempo art auctions in New York.
Made in China, and mounted to stretchers as if sliced by a carpet knife,
these oil-on-canvas 1/1-scale fragments are separated from the original masterpiece, are divided to enable distribution, and were exhibited contained in The Suburban’s secure 17’ x 9’ bunker-vault.
Concerns towards auction house hype-beasting, investment flip strategies, consortium purchasing of single artworks, regulation of the Chinese market, Chinese forgery scandals, and the speculation of deceased artist estates are all separate parts of this critical-Pop examination of art-world values.
