Empire Ceramics

This salute to Napoleonic-style appropriation of an embraced foreign culture is embodied with hand-painted calligraphic translations on ceramic dinnerwares which channel the memoirs of Emperor Bonaparte (taken from entries in his diary "The Corsican"). The installation of ceramics was one section of the Private Language exhibition presented at the Japan Foundation in Toronto during the winter of 1999.
