During the Canadian/American softwood tariff dispute of the mid-80's, these Canadian softwoods were exported to the USA from Canada avoiding the 18% tax by declaring them as duty-free artworks.
Color photographs of the wood were nailed or stapled to the actual softwood blocks, and those blocks hung on the wall.
These works were exported to the Robbin Lockett Gallery in Chicago and the Josh Baer Gallery in New York.
